I've long been fascinated by "fit," as it applies to human bodies and health and I've begun to wonder what it means and if it can even be measured.
In order to answer these questions, I first had to figure out what "fit" is. The dictionary defines it as "perform or exhibit the quality or condition, or to be the most appropriate or suitable." I don't care for this definition, mainly because an arbitrary set of criteria does not indicate to me how a person should be feeling. It's not a set of traits, it's a set of criteria, which is both subjective and inconsistent.
"Fit" is also a word that seems to be used by people to indicate whether they are a good match. I believe this to be a poor use of words. If someone is, for instance, "too fat" they aren't fit. If someone is "too thin" they aren't fit. If someone is "too tall" they aren't fit. I'm still not sure what fitness means. But before I was fit, when I was fit, I would be in shape. When I was fit, I would have a healthy metabolism and be able to lose weight and double unders.

When I was fit, I would exercise. When I was fit I took more of my prescribed exercise; I would go to the gym and use the jump ropes and ropeflow ropes because they're much more difficult to master than just doing squats or push-ups.
